The Creative Space Beirut – Making designers not Clothes

The Creative Space Beirut – Making designers not Clothes

By Admin I : Being a fashion design enthusiast, The journey with the Lebanese fashion scene was always a subject for ups and downs; Between the ultimate cliches and the very abstract, the market called for a new generation of designers, a generation lead by talent in particular, disregarding any financial privilege associated with fashion design students in general.

I had the chance to visit the “Creative Space”, the free fashion program founded by Sarah Hermez and Rania Dalloul with the orientation of Caroline Shlala-Simonelli from Parson’s the new school of design – New York. The space, the students and the program, everything seemed fresh, vibrant and intuitive with a twist of authentic techniques and an urge for education. The Creative space’s students are not by any chance “generic”, between a raw talent and a craving passion for fashion, everyone tries to exceed socio-clutural difference to join forces in 1 collection (with a load of designers’ drama and reality shows influence!). And let me give you a sneak peek, The exhibition starting this Friday at Beirut Art Center will reveal a lot of fresh experimental fashion, minimal cuts and to die for pieces all designed and tailored by the creative space’s students.

Know more about the project that you should contribute to its success, and let’s all meet in their exhibition this friday for a 360 degrees review, to be posted soon!

We are The Creative Space Beirut, a non-profit, free educational program in fashion design, open to aspiring designers from diverse cultural backgrounds who lack the means to fulfill their dream but have the talent and passion for it.

Together we are on a journey as a team to create a couture collection and become independent fashion designers. The collection is showcased in an exhibition and sold by auction and the money generated is given to the students as an income, providing them with a combination of work and education. A fraction returns to the program in order to invest in its continuity and keep everything free of charge for the students such as transportation, supplies and fabric.

Launched in June 2011, this is the second exhibition for The Creative Space and with your support it can grow.
This exhibition runs for two weeks from March 16-30 at the Beirut Art Center.
Come for the opening night on Friday March 16, meet the designers and watch the premiere screening of our short film at 6:45.
